Aims & Scope

Lapai Journal of Sociology (LJS) is a peer-reviewed, multidisciplinary journal published twice a year, in March and September, by the Department of Sociology, Faculty of Social Sciences, Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai, Niger State, Nigeria.

The journal exists to advance rigorous, evidence-based understanding of society, and to give scholars working on Nigerian and wider African social realities a credible outlet for their work. It is committed to scholarship that speaks both to the theoretical concerns of the social sciences and to the practical concerns of policy, development and community life.

LJS publishes well-researched empirical and theoretical articles in sociology, anthropology, political science, economics, mass communication, gender studies, gerontology, public administration and other closely related disciplines. Subjects of particular interest include social theory and sociological thought; population, migration and urbanisation; family, marriage and kinship; gender relations and women's studies; ageing and the sociology of later life; health, illness and medical sociology; education and the sociology of knowledge; religion and belief systems; crime, deviance, policing and criminal justice; conflict, insecurity, peacebuilding and humanitarian response; rural and agrarian studies; poverty, livelihoods, inequality and social protection; industrial and organisational sociology; environment, climate change and disaster studies; media, communication and digital society; ethnicity, identity and citizenship; and governance, public policy and development administration.

The journal welcomes original research articles, theoretical and conceptual papers, critical review essays, methodological papers, research notes and short communications, and book reviews. Empirical work using quantitative, qualitative or mixed-methods designs is equally welcome, provided that the design, sampling, data collection and analysis are reported in enough detail for the findings to be independently assessed.

Manuscripts submitted to LJS must be original, must not have been published elsewhere, and must not be under consideration by any other journal. All submissions are screened for plagiarism and subjected to double-blind peer review. Papers whose subject matter falls outside the fields listed above, and papers that offer description or policy commentary without an identifiable analytical contribution, may be declined without external review.

Articles are published in English and are freely accessible online. Hard copies are produced on request at an additional charge, determined by the prevailing cost of production at the time of the request.
